of Fried dicks and solid meat

22 01 2009

Nearly two weeks back on the Saturday night, the three of us (me, dAs and Murti) had a weird get-together. I was sitting at my home in front of my lovely computer (*kiss* *kiss*) and trying to put an end to my thesis when i received a call from dAs. On receiving it, it was revealed on me that he was right here in the neighborhood and wants to see me.  I had the hint that’s its gonna be a fun filled evening so i hopped out of my home to greet him.

He said "lets go", I said "lets go". and we started off in his car.

Reached the home of the legendary killer and picked him too. By that time we were indecisive about the place where we needed to go. Since we mutually agreed to spend some money and after a joint consensus we realized that we have been too big a losers to go to any expensive and classy place, we thought about Arizona Grill but time was limited and we were a bit extra cautious about the bill that might await us there, just in an instance I mentioned that we are standing in front of another American Style Grill place and still deciding and thus we decided to enter into a new place called ‘Roasters Grill and Coffee’.

As we entered the place, we knew we were at an alien place. The atmosphere was quite unlike the crowded and humming and buzzing places we usually go to. So, we were not sure where to head after entering. A waiter guided us upstairs and we were seated. I took a look around, there were lots of people there – mostly young couples. There was one big family with kids too, but we three were the only dude party in the place. That surely made us the ‘odd one out’ and an object of curious glances too. Perhaps that place was not meant for us to go 🙂

When presented with a menu, we had no clue what to eat. All items carried an unfamiliar name. I looked at my friend with an empty glance, and he looked back to me in a similar fashion. We all knew we had to eat a steak, BUT WHICH STEAK?  With a little help from the guy serving us, we decided to get separate steaks for the main course but chose another alien name as appetizer.  After the order, all was left to do was to look around and wait.

The order was served in 20 minutes, but first with appetizers. They were something made of chicken… something long … something crispy. I had already forgotten the name. I said to my buddy, Seems like they chopped someone’s dick off and fried it :P… Lets call it Fried Dicks.
"Hey, it even has cream in it", A friend mentioned and we all giggled.

After eating our ‘fried crispy dicks’, we were served our steaks. I had ordered a pepper steak, other guys had ordered mushroom steak and some chicken steak respectively. We wrestled with the meat and slowly devoured our meal which we knew would significantly lighten our wallets. The steaks were served with a baked potato with some filling in it.  Justice was served to that potato as well.

So, when we had had our dinner, we asked the waiter to get us the bill, We were charged an amount of 450 per head. (I forgot to mention that we had ordered a special deal for each of us. The Ala carte stuff was even more expensive).

So, after relieving ourselves off our hard earned money, we decided to have a dessert at some pie shop. We went to the nearest outlet of ‘Pie in the Sky’ and got ourselves some yummy dessert. which cost additional 50 rupees a person.

So, after filling our tummy the American style, we headed home with the promises to each other that we shall see each other very soon (considering our busy nature, that very soon is still months away)

So, in the end I would surely recommend you go to Roasters and enjoy some good food over there. Don’t forget to take your date over there coz i believe thats what they use that place for. Try their ‘Fried dicks’ as the appetizer and for main course choose from a variety of items. They also serve some great desserts, though we didn’t try it, but you can.

Have fun 🙂

It has been an extremely busy weekend

18 01 2009

Most of my past three days were spent at my office. I was assigned on a special project which was lagging far behind the schedule and needed some resources to push things along. So, I was the unlucky one to be assigned onto that.

On Friday, I worked till 1:00 AM, then I went back to office on Saturday to work the same way as last day. Then on Sunday too.. I reached office at 11 and worked till 5:30 PM.

Now It seems like my work is finished on that project… and I am likely to resume my pre-stress routine from Monday.

2008 – Yearly Review

14 01 2009

Yup, its been half the month of January and I haven’t written a single post. Reason was very simple: My Laziness and somewhat busy schedule. Another reason that kept me from writing was that i wanted to start off January with a complete round up of 2008.

So, despite me sniffing and snorting; For the fourth year in a row, I present to you the Review report of 2008…. tadaaaaaa!
*clap* *clap*

Year 2008 was yet another year of despair and gloom for me. Despite ample joyous moments, the few despairing moments seemed to carry the most of the weight on the average. The year started in utmost despair with the violence slowly subsiding after the assassination of BB whose claim of "democracy is the best revenge" eventually brought none other than Mr. Zardari as a democratically elected president of Pakistan. I was at home when the crazy public started the firecrackers and gunfire to celebrate the new year and i climbed onto the roof to light a cigarette. Thus fulfilling the first of the resolutions for 2008. That day in January… and this day in January, who would say its been more than a year but time just flew! *poof*.

2008 was the year when i started to recover from the gloom i was living in the previous year. Started to take life as it came to me and not to look backward and sigh.

Family Reunions:

As they say "Family First", I will start with the family matters. I when to my home twice this year, once on each Eid. My family came to visit me only once this summer. So, the number of gatherings have been a bit on the lower side.

Professional Life:

I spent the whole year with a single employer but with different clients. Started the year with me working for Internet banking team. In February, i got transferred to the mobile based banking team where i served till July before coming back to the good old Internet banking team. In November, I moved again to my current deployment – The transformation team.
The intensity of work has been quite ordinary with exceptional fluctuations and a significantly tougher time spent during February and June.
Mostly work done during the year was on .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0 with SQL and Oracle. Got the opportunity to work on Biztalk Server, NHibernate, CCXML/VXML as new things.

Educational Life:

My studies continued throughout the year. The MBA is finally coming to an end with me starting the year in 3rd and ending the year in last semester. My GPA has been quite acceptable yet.
Besides conventional studies, I took a course in Project Management and one in Sharepoint Server.

Love Life:

My This blog post says it all about my endeavors. The year has absolutely been the same as last year.
With me failing miserably, my family has finally started to intervene as they don’t see me being capable of any major success… (If you know what I mean :P)

Friends and Socialization:

Not as good as 2007, but surely i had some few good moments with my friends. I carried on with my old colleagues and current ones and got involved in lots of parties, fun filled evenings and khapa programs.
Though there have been only one official lunch, yet the ‘side programs’ have been sufficient.
I got re-introduced with people whom i thought I would never meet again in this life time.

Monetary Situation:

Both the inflow and expenses during the year increased (drastically). I have been spending a significant portion of my expenses on lunches (and dinners). And I surely was able to contribute to family as well.

Movies n Music:

The ratio of movies continued to rise. Much of it can be attributed to the fact that i got my own LAN connection this year. Watched lots of great movies and listened to great diversified music.  As far as maal masala is concerned, I got a great deal of the stuff this year too.  I also started to watch a few TV serials (I am glad I did). Catched up with Heroes, Supernatural and they were truly amazing to watch.

Miscellenaries:

-Continued my smoking. I changed brand to Dunhill Lights.
-Learnt to drive.
-Continued blogging with the same passion as I always do.
-Integrated WordPress and LiveJournal as two other blogs.
